Assistant playground

Explore the Free assistant interface, understand its local demo states, and connect your own application.

Start with the interfaceLink to section

In your running Starter Free checkout, open /assistant or choose Assistant in the desktop or mobile navigation. The dashboard's getting-started guide links there too. This route belongs to the starter, not the Marketing website.

The page brings the Free AI Chat Block into the existing application shell: one composer, suggestions, a readable conversation, local agent-definition editing, file references and sample task states.

Local simulation — no model connected

Replies and task results are fixed examples. Use sample text and non-sensitive files. This assistant does not send requests to an AI provider or store the session. Leaving the page or reloading clears messages, drafts and references.

Source availability in the monorepo does not imply that an older downloaded starter or deployed demo already contains this route. Check your delivered copy.

What you can exploreLink to section

Conversation and recovery

Prefill a suggestion, send a message, stop a sample response and retry without losing your edits.

Local definitions

Edit and confirm an agent definition, attach a locally read reference and export the approved fields as JSON.

Simulated Work states

Review a fictional plan and advance its approval, progress and result states with explicit controls.

Try it in a few minutesLink to section

Start a conversationLink to section

Select a suggestion to prefill the composer, then choose Send. A fixed sample response appears progressively. Choose Stop, then Retry to replay it. Open Test recovery to fail the next response and check that your edits remain.

Review and export a definitionLink to section

Choose Define an agent, send the sample request and edit the fields. Confirm the definition before copying or downloading its versioned JSON. Only approved fields and visible source references are exported. Test recovery also lets you fail the next definition confirmation.

Try a local reference and a task planLink to section

Choose Add a reference and select a supported text file. Selection alone does not read it: choose Read locally, then Use as reference and send the prefilled request. Review the filename before confirming the definition.

Choose Review a task plan, send it and expand Work simulation controls. Use the controls to supply fictional approval, progress and result states. No task executes in the background.

Start freshLink to section

Choose New chat to clear the session and cancel pending local callbacks. Leaving the page or reloading also clears messages, drafts and references. Files already downloaded to your computer are kept.

The composer supports keyboard use and explicit Send/Stop controls. Suggestions never start a task or confirm a definition. Confirming a definition does not run an agent, grant access or create a remote resource.

Local file limitsLink to section

Choose Add a reference, then select one UTF-8 .txt or .md file, at most 512 KiB. PDF, Office documents, images, URLs, audio and binary content are unsupported. The page shows at most 2,000 Unicode characters and discloses truncation. Read failures keep the recovery action visible; removing a reference invalidates its pending read.

Use as reference fills a sample request. Sending it creates an editable sample definition with the selected filename as provenance. There is no semantic analysis, indexing or RAG. The JSON excludes the file's contents and excerpt; the visible filename may be exported, so review it before confirming.

The assistant adds no prompt, filename or file-content analytics. Existing starter site analytics are separate. Reset does not delete files already saved to your computer and is not a secure-memory wipe.

Adapt your copyLink to section

The source is deliberately delivered inside the starter:

FileResponsibility
app/(app)/assistant/page.tsxServer-rendered page, context and integration guidance
components/assistant/assistant-playground.tsxLocal conversation and definition consumer
components/assistant/chat/Complete source-copy UI Block
components/assistant/use-local-chat-file.tsLocal file validation, reading and cleanup
components/assistant/work-simulation.tsxExplicit sample Work transitions
components/assistant/source-provenance.jsonCanonical revision and snapshot checksums

There is no runtime import from Marketing. Keep the complete chat/ directory when copying it elsewhere. The local README explains provenance and deliberate updates; copied source does not receive automatic fixes.

Replace the sample consumerLink to section

Start with the controlled Block contract and integration recipe. Your application supplies messages, draft, status, submit, stop, retry and copy callbacks. Keep optional file, definition and Work controls tied to actual supported behavior. Remove simulation controls when replacing the demo.

Your server owns provider credentials, authorization, validation, rate limits and costs. Your application owns persistence, model-output handling and task execution. Keep credentials out of browser props and exported definitions. Client-side Stop must be connected to transport cancellation and does not prove upstream billing has stopped. Validate success, errors, stale responses and cancellation before connecting real customer data.

Run the starter's tests, lint, type checks and build after adapting it. Review keyboard navigation, long content, narrow screens and light/dark themes. The example does not certify a provider, production deployment or screen-reader setup.

Free now, a deliberate Pro path laterLink to section

The assistant UI, accessibility, errors/recovery and local definition export are included in Free. You can connect your own backend without purchasing Pro.

Starter Pro's included foundations cover configurable authentication, database and billing. Buying Pro does not connect a model, unlock the Free demo or migrate its data. Follow the Free-to-Pro guide for deliberate source reuse. Premium assistant compositions remain a future product decision, not an available offer.
