Merchant image requirements
Document the Google Merchant image-size contract for Starter Pro assets.
Merchant image contractLink to section
Starter Pro’s Merchant image guidance is intentionally conservative:
- repository-owned Merchant assets should be at least
500 × 500 px 1500 × 1500 pxis the preferred canonical target when practical- 1:1 assets are preferred for product feeds
There is currently no repository-owned Merchant feed or image_link/
additional_image_link pipeline to audit in this checkout. The in-repo contract
therefore documents the minimums and provides a repository-owned validator for
assets that are already present, while the external Merchant Center boundary
remains outside this PR.
Validation boundary
Google Merchant Center can also ingest externally hosted images. When those dimensions cannot be verified from repository evidence, Starter Pro documents the boundary instead of guessing. Only repository-owned assets are validated automatically in-repo.
What this protectsLink to section
This contract is meant to keep future Merchant uploads from drifting below the minimum required dimensions before Google’s January 2027 enforcement date.
What remains externalLink to section
If a Merchant integration references hosted images outside the repository, the repository can document the requirement but cannot prove the remote asset dimensions without external evidence.
